The Marcy Deluxe Cross Trainer is a no-frills elliptical that offers multiple resistance levels, built-in workout programs and an affordable price. If you want to lose weight (or stay in shape) without burning a hole in the bank, this may just be the ideal cross trainer for you.
We love that Marcy focused on quality and performance, rather than the bells and whistles (speakers, cooling fans, water bottle holders). The end result is a cross trainer that’s on par with what you see in health clubs, but won’t cost you a small fortune.
Pros
- Plenty of resistance levels
- Easy-to-read display console
- Track important workout stats
- Built-in pulse monitors allow you to monitor your heart rate
- Built-in programs allow for workout variety
- Durable and reliable
- Body fat calculator helps you track your weight loss progress
Cons
- Foot pedal adjustments are impractical
The only gripe we had with this home cross trainer was the foot pedal adjustments. This generally will not be a major concern if you will be the only one using the machine (or other users are around the same height as you). Adjusting the foot pedal requires you to remove a small nut underneath the foot plate while holding the bolt on the topside with an allen key. It can be tricky and frustrating at times. Although frustrating, this issue is more of an inconvenience than a performance issue.
My Marcy Deluxe Cross Trainer Elliptical Review
The Marcy Deluxe Cross Trainer is sturdy, well-built and relatively easy to assemble. It’s simple in design, but that’s what makes it so wonderful. All of the features are genuinely useful, so you’ll really get the most out of your workouts.
There are 12 built-in workout programs, which is really important for adding variety to your workout sessions. The 16 levels of magnetic resistance allow you to add more challenge to your workouts.
The console is simple and easy to read thanks to the blue backlit display. Even if you’re working in the dark or low-light conditions, you’ll be able to easily read and keep track of your workout stats. The console displays distance, calories, speed, time, scan and pulse. All of these functions can be controlled using the buttons on the bottom of the console. You’ll also find a nice list of all the built-in workouts just below the display, so you can quickly and easily choose the right one for your session.
Aside from the 12 built-in programs, there are also recovery, body fat, manual and watts programs, so you can truly customize your workout experience.
Pulse sensors are built into the grips, so you can monitor your heart rate. If you’re serious about losing weight or staying in shape, tracking your heart rate will help ensure that your workouts are challenging enough to produce results.
The foot pedals are comfortable and glide smoothly with each stride. And you have the option of using either the moving handlebars for an upper body workout, or holding onto the solid bars for more stability.
