NordicTrack Elite 12.5 Elliptical Cross Trainer Review
Before you attempt to assemble this machine on your own, make note that it does have a 104kg weight, so it will be very heavy. I recommend getting 1 – 2 people to help you turn this elliptical upright to avoid injury.
With that said, this model does feature a SNAP assembly design. Assembling this machine is easy, but you will need a small Phillips screwdriver. A very solid build, you’ll find that moving the 12.5 is a feat. If you want to put this machine upstairs, you’ll want to opt for an upstairs delivery, or you’ll need some friends to help.
All of this sounds bad, but this demonstrates the quality of the NordicTrack – it’s extremely well built and won’t break like other models.
Once everything is assembled, you’ll be ready for your first exercise session.
Adjustable Foot Pedals
Adjustable foot pedals allow for a 20” stride, which ensures full range of motion and provides an even more intensive workout. You can adjust the incline of the machine up to 20 degrees for further difficulty, and there are 24 magnetic resistance levels ranging from very easy to fitness professional.
Comfortable to grip, there are side and front handles that you can choose from. There is a pulse sensor included on the grip to provide you with accurate heart rate monitoring. Right below the grips is a cup holder for your water.
Note: A heart rate monitoring chest strap is included and is far more precise than the pulse sensors.

The console is one of the most advanced I have ever seen, with the ability to monitor:
- Heart rate
- Time
- Distance
- Pulse
- Calories
- Speed
You also have 32 personal trainer workouts and can adjust the resistance or incline with the touch of a button. Built-in acoustic 2.0 speakers are iPod- and mp3-compatible, so you can listen to your favorite music in crystal clear audio.
The console is bright and easy to use while allowing you to keep track of your workout results.
This is one of the most advanced elliptical / cross trainer models we’ve ever tested – period.
Pros
- One-touch adjustments for incline and resistance
- 32 different fitness programs built-in
- Extremely high quality with low noise production
- Accurate heart rate monitoring with chest strap
- Large backlit console
- 21” stride for full mobility
Cons
- Very heavy
The only complaint that can be said about the NordicTrack Elite 12.5 is that it’s a very heavy machine. Unlike some of the lesser-quality models, NordicTrack uses the most durable materials and even backs their machine with a 5-year frame and 2-year parts and labour warranty.
The model’s weight is a reflection of the impressive quality behind the 12.5.
When it comes to elliptical / cross trainers, you want a machine that will last for years and provide you with an intense workout no matter your fitness level. This is exactly what the Elite offers. It may be heavy, but this is a machine you’ll be able to use daily for years with no issues. That is why we consider this to be the best cross trainer we have reviewed so far.
