JTX Strider-X7: Magnetic Cross Trainer Review
Most of you are probably familiar with the JTX brand. After all, it’s one of the leading names in the fitness industry. The Strider-X7 is one of the best-selling mid-range cross trainers in JTX’s line-up. It’s not quite as advanced as, say, the SmartStride Pro, but it still offers many of the same great features and is more affordably priced.
16” Stride Length and Modest Footprint
Starting with the basics, the Strider-X7 features a 16” (40cm) stride length and a 12.5kg flywheel. It’s quiet and smooth, so you can exercise without waking the neighbours. It boasts a modest footprint of 170cm H x 70 cm W x 130cm L, and weighs approximately 54kg. It’s a bit on the heavy side, but it’s sturdy and durable.
The Strider-X7 comes with 21 built-in programmes, which you can access through the large touchscreen computer. Programmes include hill, interval, heart rate control and fat-burning. Four custom programmes can also be added, so you can create your own workouts.
We loved the variety of different workouts because it allowed us to change our routine and kept things interesting.
16 Resistance Levels
To make your workouts more intense and effective, the Strider-X7 offers 16 magnetic resistance levels. Resistance levels are controlled digitally, so you never have to interrupt your workout to increase intensity.
The computer displays important workout information, such as time, distance (in km), km/h, watt, calories burned, heart rate and resistance level. A pulse receiver is integrated into the machine for convenient pulse monitoring.
Comfortable to Use
One thing we loved about this cross trainer was that it was easy and comfortable to use. After a typical workout on most machines, we’re left with sore, aching feet. The Strider-X7 is different. The adjustable pedals allow you to choose a size that’s comfortable for your feet. The pedals are non-slip, too, so you exercise safely and comfortably with your feet firmly in place.
Adjustable Floor Pads and Transport Castors
While this particular cross trainer does not fold up for easy storage, it does feature a somewhat compact design. The adjustable floor pads make it easy to assemble this cross trainer on uneven surfaces. Transport castors on the front of the machine also allow for transport between rooms. We felt this machine was a bit too heavy for one person to move, but with a little bit of help, you can wheel the Strider-X7 wherever you please.
Most of the machines that JTX offers are very easy to assemble, and the Strider-X7 is no different. Despite its modest size, this cross trainer can be assembled in about 45 minutes. We recommend asking for help when moving the box and assembling. Although not terribly heavy, the Strider-X7 is can be difficult to move on your own.
We did want to note that whether you’re ordering this cross trainer on Amazon or through the official website, delivery is free. If you live in England or Wales, the machine will be delivered to the room of your choice, which is incredibly convenient. Other delivery options are available to mainland UK, too. JTX does all that it can to ensure a smooth, easy delivery through scheduling and delivery reminders. In our opinion, this level of customer service is nearly as important as the machine itself.
- Easy to use
- Quiet and smooth
- Built-in programmes add variety to your workouts
- 16 resistance levels for challenging workouts
- Pulse monitoring
- Ability to create custom workouts
- Convenient delivery options
- Easy to assemble
- Hand pulse sensors not always accurate
We had trouble finding anything wrong with this cross trainer. The only small issue we noticed was that, at times, the hand pulse sensors on the handlebars were not always accurate. This is a common issue with these types of sensors, so you may consider purchasing a chest strap separately to accurately monitor your heart rate.
Aside from this one minor issue, we loved everything about the Strider-X7. It’s well-built, a pleasure to use and exceptionally quiet. The multiple resistance levels will increase the intensity of your workouts, and the built-in programmes will add variety to your exercise routine. With convenient delivery options and easy assembly, the Strider X-7 is a great choice for all users.
